During the holiday season, it can feel like everything and everyone around us is trying to sell us something! Whether that be doorbuster deals, BOGO sales, or kiddos begging for new toys, it’s not only stressful for our minds, but also for our wallets. This year, we’re recommending something new – shopping and decorating sustainably! This way your wallet, and the earth will be thanking you. Below are five simple, yet impactful ideas to help you make the most of the holidays this year.

Shop for gifts second hand.  Thrift stores, antique shops and even pawn shops can have super unique and fun gifts.

Recycle your tree!  Most cities are starting to implement tree recycling programs, so instead of throwing your tree in the dump once the holidays are over, try looking for local programs that will take it off your hands instead!

DIY your décor.  Making your own ornaments, garlands and wrapping paper is a great way to save energy. It’s also a great way to spend time with loved ones! We love this simple tutorial on creating dried citrus decorations!

Switch to LED holiday lights.  LED’s are a great way to save energy and money while lighting up your home with festive lights!

Shop local.  Shopping local during the holidays is a great way to support the earth and the local community around you.

Whichever way you choose to celebrate this year, the old adage of “less is more” can take a lot of pressure and strain off of you during this hectic time so you can focus on what really matters, spending time with the ones you love!
